A Pakistani national was arrested by the Delhi police near Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday evening.
The police said Aftab Khan, 19, a resident of Islamabad, was spotted by police personnel patrolling the area in a PCR van around 9.30 pm on Wednesday. When they asked him what he was doing in the high-security zone, Khan told them that he had lost his passport and visa in Ambala, Haryana, and wanted to meet the President to seek her help.
The PCR personnel became suspicious and he was handed over to Parliament Street police station. In the meantime, sleuths of Intelligence Bureau and other agencies were informed about the catch. “He is not providing any satisfactory answer to our queries. So far, no incriminating material has been recovered from his possession. We produced him before a court on Wednesday and took his custody to investigate his motive behind visiting Delhi,” a source said.
A senior police official said a case under Foreigners Act has been registered against him. “It is not clear how he came to India and whether he was sent with an intent to gather information of security around rashtrapati Bhavan. We are questioning him and more facts will come to light in coming days,” he said.

Metro staffer hangs self to death
New Delhi, Feb. 2: A 26-year-old Delhi Metro employee allegedly committed suicide in his staff quarters in west Delhi on Thursday following a bout of depression, the police said.
The incident was reported from Mundka at around 10 am and the deceased has been identified as Sunil, who worked as a supervisor with the Delhi Metro.
The police said Sunil’s wife had eloped with a man and he was under depression since then.
Though no suicide note was recovered from the spot or on the person of the deceased, the police believe this could be the reason for his taking this extreme step.
Sunil had been working as a supervisor with Delhi Metro for 18 months.
He was allotted staff quarters at Mundka but he used to return to his home in Dwarka after completing his duty.
On Wednesday, Sunil did not return home and his father came in the morning and found him hanging in the staff quarters. — PTI
