UNDP to study Oommen Chandy’s mass contact

A team of the United Nations Development Programme is arriving here next month to study Kerala CM Oommen Chandy’s innovative practices in governance and transparency initiatives.

Geraldine J. Fraser-Moleketi of UNDP’s democratic governance group, said in a letter to Chandy: “Your mass contact programme is the first of its kind to ensure the right of direct access to leaders and senior civil servants of the government.”

“I was impressed by the 24X7 call centre and the whistle-blowing provisions for combating corruption”.
The idea box for Vision 2030 is also an interesting case of developing an inclusive approach to building a shared vision within the society.

His colleagues, said Fraser-Moleketi, had also reported about the new e-governance projects in state.

“In my capacity, leading the world-wide democratic governance practice of UNDP, I emphasized the need to promote South-South learning in the area of democratic governance,” he said, expressing his wish to visit God’s Own Country.

Fraser-Moleketi, a former cabinet minister of South Africa, said UNDP would be happy to explore areas of mutual collaboration in strengthening south-south learning initiatives.
