The last day of the five-day fashion extravaganza — Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2012 — was buzzing with action. At Pragati Maidan’s Hall No. 8, one could spot people from all walks of life arriving in fancy avatars just to catch a glimpse of the latest trends for coming Autumn-Winter.
The day started with a combined show to encourage five upcoming designers — Niharika, Ritu Pande, Pallavi Sing-hee and Sakshee Pradh-an. Nothing remarkable about any one in particular except the fact that Sakshee Pradhan, being a newcomer, managed to rope in actor Nargis Fakhri for her debut show, when seasoned designers still struggle to get tinsel town beauties as showstoppers.
The only Chennai connection at this edition of WIFW, designer Rehane showcased a heavy-duty military-inspired collection this time. The designer created a line of olive green, bright orange and bronze-coloured dresses, skirts and jackets. The models donned khaki caps with interesting motifs and military jackets to bring out the theme on ramp. The designer accentuated her outfits with crescent-shape patchwork and bright red chord detailing. Talking about connections, in free fashion world it is important that the audience should connect with a designer’s sensibilities. However, sometimes it is difficult to understand what was going on in the designer’s mind when he created a particular collection. Designer Abdul Halder’s collection echoed similar sentiments.
Next was designer duo Ashish and Vikrant, who presented their collection “Indian High” for next season. The designers used bandhani and tie and dye art in their outfits crafted in Tussar silk, georgette and Chanderi silk. Designer Reynu Taandon “Sensually Your’s” collection was mostly about black and gold. The designer used black as her base colour and her line eventually shifted to excessive gold from top to bottom. The use of thread-work and bright colored embroidery patterns in some pieces were nice, but overall it was flashy and very desi. Actor Govinda and his daughter Narmmadaa Ahuja walked for the designer as showstoppers.
