Taking strong exception to the MCD’s concealing facts in its affidavit in the ghost employees scam, the Delhi high court on Wednesday asked the civic agency to make its stand clear whether salary was paid to such employees.
After going through the affidavit of the MCD, a division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi high court Madan B. Lokur and Justice Mukta Gupta remarked, “This affidavit conceals everything and reveals nothing. It does not disclose facts. This is a very nicely drafted affidavit concealing the facts by the agency.”
Appearing for the MCD, senior lawyer Ravi Shankar Prasad said the affidavit stated that 22,853 ghost employees were found after the bio-metric system was operationalised but he had a tough time convincing the court whether they were being paid the salary.
Not satisfied with the affidavit, the division bench asked Mr Prasad to file a fresh affidavit by May 26 about the amount paid to such a large number of employees who do not exist but have drawn wages for the past two decades.
