The Punjab Cabinet on Friday rejected the proposal of the Union government to set up a National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) describing it as against the concept of federalism and encroachment upon the rights of the state governments.
The Cabinet opined that setting up of NCTC was against the concept of Federalism and encroaches upon the rights of the state governments. Earlier, chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had reacted strongly against the proposal to set up NCTC describing it as “a directly collaborationist measure by the Centre in an attempt to usurp whatever is left of the states’ authority in matters of governance”.
Recommending the dissolution of the present Legislative Assembly, the Cabinet disagreed with the proposed draft water policy circulated by the Central government saying that it impinges upon the rights of the state government.
In a meeting headed by Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal on Friday the Cabinet placed on record its “profound gratitude” to the People of Punjab, government employees and official machinery of the state besides NGOs and other social organizations for their whole hearted cooperation to the government in the process of unprecedented development of the state between 2007-2012.
