The four Italian navy personnel on board the merchant vessel Enrica Lexie are under immense stress and depression.
The Kerala police had earlier arrested two of the six-member team Latorre Massimilliano and Salvatore Girone.
The officials, who talked to the men during the search and seizure operation on Sunday, said the mental states of the four navy men were not good.
“They are distressed and in a trauma because they have little idea when they can leave the Kochi shore and are clueless about the future of the case. They also expressed concern over the delay in the case,” said an official.
Renato Volgina, Antonio Fontana, Alexssandro Conte and Massimo Andronico are the four navy men left on the ship. As per the sources, the cabins and rooms of the vessel are too small to stay for a long period.
“They do not even have space to move around on the vessel. They said all they do is sitting in the room throughout the day. Also, they are worried as their colleagues are in police custody,” said an official.
The 24-member crew of the vessel, including captain Umberto Vitelli, are concerened about the never-ending halt, say the sources. “Many members said they had no clue that the firing incident would snowball into such an international issue,” he said.
The merchent vessel has been anchored near Kochi shore from Feb. 16.
