Indian intelligence agencies have unearthed the entire conspiracy behind the 13/2 magnetic bomb attack on Israeli diplomat, Tal Yehoshua, with strong evidence suggesting the actual bomber was an Iranian, and that the entire conspiracy was hatched in Iran but executed with local support.
The Delhi police special cell, with the help of Central intelligence agencies, arrested a key conspirator, Syed Mohammed Ahmad Kazmi, a freelance journalist working for an Iranian news agency and radio network.
At the court hearing for Kazmi’s remand, public prosecutor Rajiv Mohan called it a case of international terrorism and said the “possibility of the involvement of a foreign hand, and of the conspiracy being hatched outside the country” couldn’t be ruled out. Kazmi was remanded to 20 days’ police custody.
Intelligence sources claimed investigations had revealed Kazmi helped the bomber conduct a recce of the Israeli embassy and other places in New Delhi frequented by Israeli diplomats and tourists. It was also revealed that the bomber visited India at least four times since January 2011 to plan the blast, and that Kazmi was fully aware of the conspiracy. Sources said the bomber left New Delhi on the night of February 13 after carrying out the attack.
“We have reason to believe the bomber is an Iranian and had come from Iran. He is an expert in assembling such explosives and planting them as well. There are at least five people involved in the conspiracy,” a top intelligence official said.
Sources said the trail even leads to Nepal and Bangladesh, and that the agencies were close to apprehending at least two more suspects in the case. The operation was planned so secretively that Kazmi was not even aware of the bomber’s real name.
