A ‘unique’ silver coin looted on Wednesday night from an elderly woman led the Delhi police to crack the sensational murder of an octogenarian in Kalkaji area of south east Delhi and five men have been arrested in the matter.
The police have arrested Saleem and Sonu, who used to stay at Kalkaji mandir from the past five years. Dinabandhu Malik, a peon with ministry of defence and Usman, a scrap dealer, have also been arrested for their roles in the crime. The police has recovered the silver crockery along with some jewellery from the five men. A screw driver and pipe wrench used for removing the grills were also recovered.
Delhi police commissioner YS Dadwal said Mallik, who is absent from his defence ministry office from one year, had received stolen goods from Saleem and Sonu. “Along with their three associates, Sonu and Saleem entered the residence of Lekhi on May 12 and gagged him and took Rs 3000 from him. The five assailants then barged into the adjoining house of Gulbani and gagged her before decamping with articles,” The three associates are on the run, Mr Dadwal said. After committing the robbery, the five assailants went to Hans Raj Sethi Park in Kalkaji to decide on the next course of action. Dadwal said Malik, who holds two government accommodations in south Delhi, sold the stolen material including some jewellery to Usman. “Malik against whom two cases have been earlier registered at Kalkaji police station, receives stolen property and has been involved in petty offences,” Dadwal said.
