The mystery surrounding the alleged suicide by IPS officer and Bilaspur district superintendent of police (SP) Rahul Sharma on Tuesday “partly” unfolded with the recovery of a suicide note from his room, in which he blamed his “interfering boss” and “the high court judge” for his taking the extreme step.
The two-page suicide note, written in English and addressed to his wife, was found in his suite at the police officers’ mess where he spent his last day. The note said he was disturbed and felt dejected due to continued interference by his higher authority in his job. He also made a mention of an “arrogant and haughty HC judge” for causing immense mental pressure, provoking him to end his life in such a tragic manner.
“I am sick and tired of my life,” the letter released in a media conference by Bilaspur range inspector-general of police G.P.Singh said.
“I am sorry. Please take care of kids, my brother and my parents...... Build the children to become law abiding citizens,” the suicide note said and added “I know you all will not forgive me for this.”
His wife, G.Gayatri, is a resident of Tamil Nadu and an allied service officer of 2003 batch, currently posted in Railways as deputy commercial manager in South East Central Railway at Bilaspur.
The deceased police officer’s father R.K. Sharma, who arrived at Bilaspur along with other family members to perform his son’s last rites, also corroborated the suicide note saying that his son was under immense pressure due to “harassment” by his higher authorities for the past several weeks.
“My son used to narrate me over phone how he was being harassed by his higher authorities, who interfered in his works and not allowed him to discharge his duty properly,” said Mr Sharma.

Cong presses for CBI probe

The Opposition Congress here on Tuesday demanded a CBI probe into the alleged suicide by IPS officer and Bilashpur SP Rahul Sharma on Monday, suspecting “foul play” in his death. Thrity one party MLAs were suspended from Chhattisgarh Assembly for disrupting proceedings of the House over the issue.
