Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Thursday launched a scathing attack on TRS chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao saying that Mr Rao is exploiting T-sentiment to achieve his “selfish political goals”.
Speaking at a public meeting in Mahbubnagar during the Congress poll campaign for the ensuing bypolls in Telangana region, the CM asked why Mr Rao had not resigned his MP’s seat while asking others to resign.
“Mr Rao should explain what he has achieved by forcing his MLAs to resign frequently. He attended Parliament only 13 times since he was elected as MP three years ago. He has no concern for public issues and problems. Since the last 11 years, he is reaping political benefits by misleading people in the name of Telangana,” the Chief Minister said.
Mr Reddy said that the TRS chief migrated to Mahbubnagar Lok Sabha constituency during the 2009 polls after realising that he would face defeat in Karimnagar.
“We all know very well how he struggled to get re-elected from Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat after submitting his resignation in 2008. He could win with a margin of just 15,000 votes with utmost difficulty. This time, he did not resign from Mahbubnagar knowing very well that he will not be re-elected,” the CM added.
He also took a dig at the TD chief N. Chandrababu Naidu saying that he did nothing for his home district Chittoor.
“Babu belongs to Chittoor. But he did nothing for the district during his nine-year rule,” the CM said.
He had also talking about adopting the backward Mahabubnagar district then. I thought that he would develop Mahabubnagar district. But in reality, he destroyed the district during his rule," Mr Reddy said.
He exuded confidence that Congress will sweep the bypolls. "Congress will continue to remain in power at state and national level for the next two years. I urge people to elect Congress candidates since it will give strength to the government to take up development and welfare schemes in a more effective manner," Mr Reddy said.
The CM's meeting received huge response in Mahabubnagar. Farmers and women raised slogans in support of the Chief Minster for implementing various welfare schemes for their benefit.
