Girls feel safer with move to tackle stalkers

For those harassed by stalkers for long, can now breathe a sigh of relief as the anti-staling cell by Delhi Police is all geared up to ensure your security. Delhi Police spokesperson Rajan Bhagat informed that the first day of the official launch of the anti-stalking cell was marked by a number of calls from Delhiites to know how the cell functions. “In fact, we received many calls from women who wanted to know how their identity can be kept a secret. Delhiites have shown a keen interest in the anti-stalking cell. We received 25 to 30 calls on the first day with inquiries. Not just that, we started receiving calls when we announced the cell’s launch,” he says.
If you ask women in the city, they’re more than happy to know there’s something readily available for them in times of need. “It’s great to have an anti-stalking helpline, as now we know there’s something we can rely on in emergency situations,” says Richa Nathani, a 19-year-old.
There are some who are still waiting for the helpline to solve a few cases before they can rely on them. “I am still waiting for the helpline to resolve a few cases successfully. Do these helplines mean that help is just a call away? If so, then it’s a great move,” opines Sneha Singh, a media professional.
Others suggest that the new initiative can be looked upon as a measure to resolve issues. “When the government is providing help, I don’t see any reason why we should doubt it. It’s a great move, and I’m sure it’ll help many of us feel much more safe in a city like Delhi,” shares Shweta Singh, a student.
