[1]With United Kingdom all set to implement its new set of rules to curb abuse of student visas and ensure that only the best students stay and work in the country, the number of Indian students aspiring to join higher education institutions in Britain is expected to dip.
In a statement published in the UK border agency website, UK minister for immigration Damian Green, said "It is vital that we continue to attract the brightest and the best international students, but we have to be more selective about who can come and how long they can stay."
"In the past, too many students have come to the UK to work rather than study, and this abuse must end. With the introduction of the graduate entrepreneur route and the restrictions on student work, we are reforming the system to deliver immigration to benefit Britain", he wrote.
Speaking to DC during his recent visit to Chennai, Mr Mark Narusberg, validation officer, University of Wales, said it would be difficult for international students to enter the UK as some private colleges were closed because they could not attract sufficient number of students.
"It will make things difficult for some varsities, but for few as others have several international collaborations.
Students can still get a UK degree as universities have international partners across the world", he added. Some agents who promote UK’s higher education institutions in the country also say that they a drop in numbers can be expected with the new regulations to be implemented from April.
