A tribal woman, who had accused five youths of raping her daughter, has been allegedly murdered by the latter after she refused to withdraw the complaint against them, the police said.
Following the murder in Betul district of Madhya Pradesh, district Superintendent of Police, B.S. Chouhan, has been transferred as AIG in the police headquarters.
Lalit Shakyawar has been appointed in his place, official sources said here.
On March 23, five youths barged into the house of Imarti Bai, a tribal woman, and shot her dead. Two weeks ago, Imarti Bai had lodged a police complaint alleging that the youths -- Rajesh Kirar, Bantu, Raju, Motu and Praveen -- raped her school-going daughter last month.
They allegedly killed the woman as she refused to withdraw the complaint.
The daughter alleged that police did not act even when her mother informed them about the threats to her.
Ajay Singh, Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh Assembly, said people were feeling insecure.
"It appears as if Nero is ruling Madhya Pradesh," he said in a statement here.
