Nurses belonging to the United Nurses Association (UNA), launched a relay hunger strike, protesting against the failure of the management to settle the agitation that entered the 15th day on Monday.
While five nurses sat on hunger strike, a march was also undertaken to the hospital by the people’s committee, supporting the strike.
The agitation was in protest against the alleged violation of an earlier agreement with the management.
According to UNA, five of the nurses were removed from the rolls by the management for participating in an earlier agitation.
But the management contested this claim saying that those nurses were trainees and their training period was over.
The management in a statement also said that Lakeshore was one of the few ‘nurses-friendly’ hospitals in the state and it had only 6-hour shifts for nurses.
It had also implemented the wage revision as per the agreement entered on February 12, in the presence of Labour Minister, Shibu Baby John.
Despite all this, the functioning of the hospital went on smoothly on Monday.
