As part of measures to totally automate the enforcement of traffic process, facilitating easy monitoring and better regulation, the state government has proposed to establish an integrated traffic management system in Chennai at an estimated cost of Rs 150 crore.
“This will totally automate the traffic management system,” state finance minister O. Panneerselvam told the Assembly on Monday while presenting the AIADMK government’s second budget.
This system is a result of the overwhelming response to the e-challan system introduced in Chennai, Madurai, Salem, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli and Tiruchy and on a pilot basis in Kancheepuram district.
Steps would also be taken soon to put in place e-governance initiative like the crime and criminal tracking network and systems (CCTNS) with central funding, so as to make the department efficient and public friendly.
Special units like the crime branch, economic offences wing and idol wing not covered by central funding scheme, will also be brought under the CCTNS with state funding, he added.
“In the last 10 months, the state remained peaceful and law and order was maintained. On many occasions, the CM amply demonstrated her uncompromising determination and firm resolve not to spare anti social elements,” he said.
The government had received 30,071 complaints of landgrabbing across the state and land worth Rs 724.22 crore have been retrieved. “We have also sanctioned 25 special courts to try landgrabbing cases,” the minister said.
On road safety, he said the government would establish heavy motor vehicle driving schools at the cost of Rs 13 crore in 13 districts.
