Shibu agrees,first BJP rule, then JMM

JMM supremo Shibu Soren finally broke his enigmatic silence on Tuesday to begin melting Jharkhand’s 21-day political impasse.
May 25 has been fixed as the date when Mr Shibu Soren will step down as chief minister and a BJP-led government will be formed for the first half of the Assembly’s remaining tenure under Mr Arjun Munda.
At a meeting at Mr Soren’s residence in Ranchi, the JMM and the BJP allowed some slackening in their rigid postures on some demands that had prevented their protracted power-sharing negotiations from making headway. Eager to keep sharing power, the two warring parties made allowances for each other and settled for a rotational form of government.
The BJP, so far keen on getting to head the government for the entire remaining tenure of the present Assembly, agreed to do so with the JMM’s support only for the first 28 months. Under the agreement arrived at by the two parties and their allies AJSU and JD(U) on Tuesday, Mr Soren’s son, JMM legislative party leader Hemant Soren, would be one of the two deputy chief ministers. Soren Senior, currently MP from Dumka, would be made chairman of the NDA coordination committee.
