The state police administration is planning to recruit more special police officers (SPOs) to tackle the Maoist menace in Bankura, West Midnapore and Purulia districts in a more efficient and better way. At present, around 150 SPOs are working in these three districts to bridge the gap between the civilians and the police to tackle the Maoist problem.
“We are planning to increase the number of SPOs from the current level of around 150. However, we have no plans to give them arms,” a senior state police official said.
The special police officers get a monthly remuneration of Rs 1,500.
Meanwhile, with the apprehension that the Maoists would carry out attack on the railways, the state police administration has done some special security arrangements.
“We have deployed forces and put some ambushes in certain areas along the railway tracks apprehending that the Maoists may carry out attacks on railway tracks and trains to register their presence during the 48 hours bandh they have called,” state director general of police, Bhupinder Singh said.

Rose Valley to roll out apparel brand

The Rose Valley Group, which has diversified business interests has decided to venture into apparel manufacturing business. The products of the Rose Valley will be available in the markets in June.
The group is also planning to roll out a chain of exclusive apparel retail stores within a year.
Rose Valley managing director Shibamoy Dutta said, “We have set up a garments factory at the Paridhan Park in Beliaghata with an investment of Rs 15 crores. It has started production of trousers and shirts which would be available in retail shops under the brand name of RV in June. In the next six months, ladies wear and kids wear will also be available in the market.”
The Rose Valley has been also negotiating long-term agreements with various organised retail players to make the RV branded garments available at their outlets. “Our plan is to roll out exclusive apparel stores in near future. These stores will sell the RV branded different apparel products. We are also planning to venture into apparel export in the future,” Mr Dutta added.
