Assam chief secretary N.K. Das has directed various departments, deputy commissioners, superintendent of police and block development officers of the state to mobilise crowd besides arranging transportation and refreshment to bring them to the capital for a celebration on May 23, organised to mark completion of four years of the Congress government in Assam.
In what has come as a serious problem for the honest deputy commissioners and officials of various departments, the chief secretary has not clarified from where the fund will come to arrange hundreds of vehicles and refreshment of those people being asked to bring to Guwahati by the officers.
The minutes of the meeting which was held under the chairmanship of Assam chief secretary N.K. Das on May 14 and was signed by all the departmental heads revealed that the chief secretary has approved the directive to the Assam government officers to mobilise 1,000 members of self-help group, 1,000 progressive farmers, 150 NCC cadres, 3,000 Anganwadi workers, 500 JFM members and 500 village headmen for the meeting.
The minutes of the meeting, which has been marked to Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi and all the ministers, has also directed the block development officers of all the 200 blocks to bring 40 important citizens of their respective blocks for the grand celebrations in Guwahati.
The officers have also been entrusted with the responsibility of arranging transport and refreshment of these people “in a manner as may be deemed appropriate by them”, the minutes of the meeting, a copy also in possession of this newspaper, said.
To ensure the success of the celebration of four years of the Assam government, an organising committee has also been formed which apprised the chief secretary that “some specific action was required from the deputy commissioners and superintendents of Nagaon, Morigaon, Kamrup, Baksha, Chirang and Nalbari districts”.
