The girls have outshone the boys in both the ICSE and ISC examinations under the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations whose results were published on Wednesday. Furthermore, the students of the commerce stream have performed better than the science and humanities.
In 2010, the pass percentage in the ICSE examination stands at 98.02, which is higher by 0.03 per cent than 2009. In the ISC examination, the pass percentage is 98.09, which is also 0.34 per cent higher than in 2009. In ICSE, the pass percentage of the girls is 98.27 while that of boys is 97.84 per cent, while in ISC, 98.97 per cent girls have passed the examinations in comparison to 97.39 per cent boys.
In 2010, 22,676 students from 296 schools in the state appeared for the ICSE examination out of which 13,138 were boys and 9,538 were girls. In ISC, 16,757 students appeared from 167 schools, out of which 9,356 were boys and 7,401 were girls. The officiating chief executive and secretary of the council, Gerry Ararthoon, said, “We have more concentration of schools here in West Bengal and hence students have faired extremely well here.” Principal of the La Martiniere for Girls, H. Peacock said, “Our students have faired extremely well with many of them scoring above 90 per cent.” Echoing Ms Peacock, principal of Vivekananda Mission High School, Ms Keya Sinha, said, “Out of 178 students who appeared for the examination from our school, atleast 100 students have secured 90 per cent.” The toppers in ICSE and ISC exam from the state, Puneet Paresh of Bhawanipur Education Society and Shreya Daga of Mahadevi Birla Shishu Vihar both belonged to the commerce streams.
