Having borne abuse and criticism on its Facebook page, the city traffic police has hit back. The cops have reminded their critics that the police comes from the same society as they do and that the negative image of the police comes from ingrained attitudes like mothers scaring their young ones by portraying the police as ghosts or someone to be feared.
“The society first of all should shed all the false feeling about the police. Mothers should not show the police as bhoot to their kids and the public shall not stare at the police with a different look (sic),” shot back an angry Hyderabad Traffic Police representative on the Facebook page.
While responding to a nasty message posted by one Kashif Uddin saying that the traffic police take bribes, use vulgar language and do not cooperate with the public, the cops defended themselves by saying that the police come from the same society as the public that critics them. “The Indian police is the product of British to suppress us. The British left, but the habit remained in the mind of both the police and the public. Go to hell with the new look of this page…. I had to copy and paste here to reply to Kashif who posted five hours ago,” retorted an angry cop.
The cops have a huge list of blacklisted members who had to be blocked for misusing the space by posting abuse. There are 700 big-time abusers. But the site also has a sizeable fan following. There are over 25,500 members who follow the HTP Facebook page and actively participate in discussion. Though the page should have received constructive criticism rather than abuse, the police has now started giving it back to the abusers saying, “Don’t like me? Cool. I don’t wake up every morning to impress you.”
