Army recruitment: Candidates with tattoos rejected

Candidates sporting meaningless tattoos on their body will not be recruited in armed forces, Brigadier Pankaj Sinha who is in-charge of Chennai recruiting zone, said.

Mr Sinha who was here on Thursday to oversee the ongoing Army recruitment rally said that those candidates sporting meaningless tattoos on their body would be rejected.

However, small-sized tattoos on the non-exposed skin would be pardoned. Since the Army followed a certain dress code, such tattoos were a taboo and the same could be injurious to health in the long run, he said.

Middlemen or touts have become such a menace to the Army that it is planning to computerise the written part of the recruitment process both in general and technical categories, Mr Sinha said.

He said that the common entrance test for recruitment would soon be computerised. Candidates, who sit for the written test after clearing the physical test and medical examination, would be required to take the test on computers at the designated centres.

The system will be introduced for all categories, though initially it is likely to be introduced for technical category, he added.

“Even if the candidates do not have basic knowledge of computers, they will still be able to take the test as it involves only clicking of the mouse to select the right answers on the computer screen. We will also provide them 15-minute training prior to the test,” he said.

He said there would be three centres in Tamil Nadu for conducting the computerised test which is likely to be introduced within the next six to eight months.
