Chief judicial magistrate A.K. Gopakumar on Monday extended the remand period of the Italian marines, Latorre Massimillano and Salvatore Girone, till April 30 and sent them back to the central jail in the capital, where they have been in custody for the last 42 days.
The marines who were brought from Poojappura central jail were joined by Italian officials who were waiting at the court complex.
The vehicle with the marines arrived at the court by 11.20 am and the process of extension of remand was completed within five minutes and they were taken back to the central jail.
Deputy director of prosecution K.O. Raju appeared for the prosecution and Mr Sunil Maheswaran Pillai appeared for the marines.
