KSEB is all set to slap additional power restrictions on domestic consumers, already half-blinded by a half-hour load-shedding.
Domestic consumption above 300 units in two months will be charged at a higher tariff of `10 per unit. The normal tariff varies between Rs 1.15 and Rs 5.45.
A petition to this effect has been forwarded to the state electricity regulatory commission on Wednesday. The idea is to reduce consumption by at least 10 percent of anticipated amount.
The KSERC is expected to give its nod for the power restriction on domestic consumers as it had criticised the KSEB for limiting the consumption curbs to HT and EHT consumers.
Of the 85 lakh-plus domestic consumers, only 11 percent, or 9.5 lakh consumers, use more than 300 units in two months.
But this group accounts for over 45 percent of the total annual domestic consumption of 8,220 million units. The average daily consumption of domestic category is about 22.51 million units (MU) per day.
According to sources in KSEB, by restricting the usage by domestic consumers at a normal tariff to 300 units per two-monthly billing cycle, the electricity use at normal tariff can be reduced by 2.61 MU per day.
