The CBI on Friday recorded the statement of the Army Chief, General V.K. Singh, in connection with agency’s probe related to his allegation that bribes had been offered to him for procurement of nearly 600 “sub-standard” trucks for the Indian Army. Sources said Gen. Singh provided several documents related to alleged irregularities in the procurement of Tatra trucks for the Army.
CBI officials recorded Gen. Singh’s statement at his South block office on Friday. “Agency officials visited the office of the Army Chief twice to record his statement on Friday. A team of CBI officials first met him around 11 am and left his office around 12.45 pm. Agency officials again visited his office at around 3 pm and recorded his statement further. If required, CBI officials will meet him again for further clarification,” sources said. The CBI also recovered a 2010 visitors’ register from his office, sources said, adding it is being further scrutinised. The CBI will soon record the statement of a retired official who allegedly met Gen. Singh on September 22, 2010 and offered him a bribe of `14 crore, sources said.
