Home minister R.R. Patil on Wednesday said there should be a timeframe
to execute the sentences awarded to terrorists. He added that he was
thinking for some time now as to how many more days the state would
have of take care of Ajmal Aamir Kasab, the lone surviving terrorist
of the 26/11 terror raids.
“The question that has been doing rounds in my mind is how many more
days we will have to take care of Kasab who has killed so many
innocent people,” Mr Patil said, while addressing a gathering at a
book release at in Azad Maidan on Wednesday.
Mr Patil said that the government has to decide the timeframe within
which terrorists should be punished in a bid to send a strong message
to the terrorists across the border.
“The law is the same for people here and for terrorists coming from
across the border. There is a need to give a thought about the
existing law,” Mr Patil added.
A special anti-terror court had sentenced Kasab to death on May 6,
2010. The Bombay high court had upheld the verdict. However, Kasab has
challenged the verdict in the Supreme Court.
