With the Congress playing its cards close to its chest, finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, widely regarded as a presidential front-runner, said Sunday he was “in the dark”.
When a journalist told him: “we are delighted your name was proposed for the presidency”, Mr Mukherjee laughed and said: “I’m afraid I don’t know. In our system, unless a decision is taken, nobody discloses it officially. So I am as much in the dark (on this) as you are.”
The Left parties have, meanwhile, said they want a candidate with “wider acceptance”.
