Writers bemoan ‘politics of murder’

The intelligentsia in Kerala has voiced its concern over the politics of murder, while a group of progressive writers is out defend the CPI(M).

A group of 20 writers and social activists, most of them with Left leanings, came out with a statement condemning the ‘fascist’ tendencies that have taken over the party found expression in the gruesome murder of TPC.

Among those who signed the statement were writer Anand, political commentators B.R.P. Bhaskar and K. Venu, historian M.G.S. Narayanan, writers Aatoor Ravi Varma, Sarah Joseph, M. Gangadharan, C.R. Parameswaran, T.P. Rajeevan, M.N. Karasseri, Hamid Chendamangaloor, N.M. Pearson, E. Karunakaran, M.G. Sasi Anwar Ali, C.J. George and M. Kamaruddin.

Writer C.R. Parames-waran says the party leadership with a “low level of intelligence depends on low mafia connections.”

Writer T.P. Rajeevan feels that “honour killings are a part of activities of the party where there is no space for a voice for dissent.”

Social commentator Civic Chandran says that there is an inherent issue in communist movement where “a class enemy will not be pardoned, but not a renegade who has to be annihilated him. And, Pinarayi has been going around calling TPC a renegade”.

To counter the growing offence against the CPI(M), the Purogamana Kalasahit-ya Sangham has in a statement come out against this attack on the CPI(M) saying that the killers of TPC should be booked.

It has become fashion to take anti-communist stand and find fault with the party, the statement by Sangham president U.A. Kadher and secretary V.N. Murali says.
