Within days of more than 90 kids being were rescued from a shelter home in neighbouring Haryana, police have registered a case against a school warden in Punjab for allegedly molesting a mentally-challenged minor girl.
Warden Sukhchain Singh of a Red Cross society-run school was arrested on Sunday on the complaint of the school staff, police said on Monday adding that the Deputy Commissioner has ordered a probe into the matter.
Medical examination of the 17-year-old girl, who hails from Taran Taran district, is being conducted. She was staying in the school for the past three months, police said.
As many as 80 mentally-challenged children, including girls, are currently undergoing education in three such schools run by the society in the district. The incident comes close on the heels of the shelter-home case in the Rohtak district of neighbouring Haryana, where 94 children, mostly girls, were rescued after charges sexual abuse by some of the inmates.
