Chennai mayor Saidai S. Duraisamy on Monday kickstarted the grievance redressal system for 200 wards in the city.
The civic body’s top brass will trek all roads in the city in a phased manner to ascertain the status of civic amenities.
Inaugurating the drive at a function in T Nagar, the mayor said the scheme was initiated on the instructions of chief minister J. Jayalalithaa.
The CM has directed the corporation to address public grievances related to garbage stagnation, poor roads, streetlights and bad pavements in the city.
The pilot project, started in ward 141 on Monday, will be expanded to all the 200 wards in Chennai. The project will ensure that shortcoming are identified and the required basic amenities and infrastructure enhanced, he said.
Mr Duraisamy also instructed the regional officer of Central Chennai Ms Maheswari to work on ward 141 in detail so that a model ward is established and the same strategy can be followed in other wards.
T. Nagar legislator V. P. Kalairajan, who accompanied the mayor, demanded a sub station so that the voltage fluctuation problem in the T Nagar area can be sort out and requested the civic body to allocate land for establishing a sub station.
The mayor also said City Connect, an NGO, working on city improvement has been asked to study the pavements structures.
Based on its recommendations, the existing platforms will be improvised to benefit pedestrians, he said.
Corporation officials and senior engineers accompanied the mayor during his visit and the team will cover ward 132 on Tuesday.
