Deepika plays with her look

While pictures of Deepika Padukone’s new look in Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Se have been making the rounds, the actress has been creating quite a stir with her off screen avatar as well.
Deepika managed to turn quite a few heads on the red carpet at Cannes in a sari this year. On screen, Deepika in a bikini in Sajid Nadiadwala’s Housefull was quite a stunner. But Deepika is overwhelmed by the praise she received for her KHJJS look. “I am glad people have liked the look. Since it is a period film there was no scope for being glamorous,” says Deepika, who is essaying the role of an 18-year-old revolutionary in the film. “In Ashutosh’s film, I am wearing a lot of cotton saris. The film is set in a Bengali milieu and I had to make sure that I carry the look well.”
Referring to a still in which we see Deepika with a group of revolutionaries, Ashutosh said, “This is one of my favourite images from the movie. It showcases the grit and determination of the women of the 1930s. Deepika portrays the character of Kalpana Datta. These were times when women were not allowed to participate in freedom movements. But she braved all odds and took a gun in her hands to fight for the country.”
The film, which also stars Abhishek Bachchan, is based on the Chittagong Uprising. The movie is slated for a December 3 release.
