An Indian origin male nurse working in UK's National Health Service has been banned from the profession after being caught romancing a vulnerable woman patient and bombarding her with love letters, emails and cards.
Rajendranath Jagroo, 46, who was working at the Leicester General Hospital, sent many letters, emails and cards to the unnamed patient between February and September 2008, reports from Leicester said.
Jagroo, who is married, also reportedly took the woman on a weekend trip to Liverpool after meeting her through his work at East Midlands regional eating disorder unit in the hospital.
The 'affair' was discovered when one of Jagroo's colleagues spotted them kissing and hugging in March 2008.
Jagroo has now been struck off the register for misconduct after a Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) hearing, according to a report in the Leicester Mercury, a leading local daily.
Panel chairman Dr Pamella Ormerod, who said Jagroo did not show any remorse for his actions, said: "Mr Jagroo's behaviour abused the trust patient X, a vulnerable patient, placed in him as a registered nurse".
When confronted, he was suspended and handed a written warning, but he reportedly continued to deny having an affair and insisted the relationship had not been sexual. But the patient later handed a member of hospital staff love letters detailing the pair's sexual encounters.
Alex Jamieson, who represented the NMC, told the hearing how the patient handed a bundle of documents to a doctor at the clinic: "They contained letters, which the council would say were love letters, sent by Mr Jagroo detailing his and Patient X's, romantic life together".
He added: "He said his relationship with patient X was strictly professional and that she was doing this to ruin his career. "He admitted they had been to Liverpool together, but he had done this as she had blackmailed him into going, saying that if he did not comply, she would get him into trouble".
The panel rejected his explanation and found him guilty of misconduct, the report said.
