The Central Reserve Police Force is likely to create an additional post of inspector general of police (operations) in every state where the force is deployed for anti-Naxal operations.
According to sources, decision to create a post of IG (operations) in Naxal-affected states will be part of CRPF’s operational strategies to firmly deal with the Maoists. After the Dantewada incident, in which 76 CRPF personnel were killed by Maoists, the CRPF has now decided to bring major changes in force’s operational strategies, sources added.
“Initially, the post of IG (operations) is likely to be created in Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. The officers who will be appointed as IG (operations) will exclusively oversee operations and will not do any administrative work at all”, sources added. The CRPF has already created a post of IG (operations) in militancy-hit Jammu and Kashmir but not in Naxal-affected states where the force is deployed.
Sources further said, “The paramilitary force is now waiting for the Union home ministry’s approval in this regard. After all, the ministry has to give permission for creation of an additional post.”
Emphasis is also being given to proper training, sources added.
Besides, the Centre has also decided to speed up restructuring of the paramilitary force by bifurcating it into two parts with one earmarked for soft duties and the other being kept for tough assignments like anti-Naxal operations.
