Students appearing for the ongoing engineering exams of the University of Mumbai were in for a rude shock on Tuesday, when the paper handed out to them, turned out to be that of another semester.
The eighth semester students, who were to appear for the Instrumentation System Design (ISD) paper, received the Electronic Technology (ET) paper of the fourth semester instead, a student appearing for the exam at Bhartiya Vidyapeeth College told this newspaper.
Confirming the same, a college official said, “The CD of the question paper that we got, had the code of the ISD paper on it, but it turned out to be the ET question paper — exams for which are to be held on June 4.” As the exam was for both the old and revised syllabus, the college asked the students to appear for the old pattern question paper, as the goof-up had been with the new pattern question paper only.
While University officials claimed that it was a minor problem and that the difference was of one sub-question, students said that the difference was of an entire question and could cost them almost 20 marks.
When contacted, Dr Naresh Chandra, pro-vice-chancellor, MU said, “There is no difference in both the papers. We have been told that there was a difference of just one question in the short notes section. However, if students are claiming that there were more differences, we will verify the same and take steps accordingly,”
