Manav creats ivory sherwani for Leno

Indian designer Manav Gangwani, known for his expensive couture and over-the-top grandeur, has designed an outfit for American comedian and The Tonight Show host Jay Leno, who wore the outfit with a pair of tennis shoes for an episode where the host was shown testing the Tata Nano. The classic ivory sherwani with a subtle ivory accent was one from a number of designs done for Leno.
Gangwani’s close friend Sophie Choudry knows Jay Leno’s publicist Jeremy well and when she found out that they were looking for an Indian outfit for Leno, she recommended Gangwani for the job.
“I was given a brief to design for Leno and I suggested a few options which I thought would suit Leno and the occasion far more. I instantly thought of something classic, trendy and at the same time subtle. Leno mostly wears denims, so it was important that he should be comfortable in the outfit and that the outfit should accentuate his personality,” said Gangwani.
According to him, the garment is a true reflection of the Indian aesthetic sensibilities and yet very contemporary — a perfect fusion of the East and West.
An ecstatic Leno said, “I love the suit and so does my wife. I hope to be in India before long.”
Although Gangwani is yet to meet Leno, his next visit to Los Angeles will see the two aces in their field take their association further.
Gangwani added, “It was an absolute pleasure to be dressing Leno. I am a huge fan and I am happy to see Leno in my creation. He has the most remarkable personality and I had chosen outfits and colours that I thought would complement him.”
