Amsterdam set to end ban on drinking beer standing

Partygoers on Amsterdam rooftops will soon be allowed to drink beer standing up.

A municipal ban on the 'practice' will soon be repealed according to reports but it's still not clear when 'standing orders' will ease.

Amsterdam had passed the rule to combat excessive noise levels from rooftops under the assumption that 'standing people' make more noise than the ones sitting down.

Now, rather than fining people for drinking beer standing, officials will focus on combating high noise levels themselves, Radio Netherlands Worldwide quoted a spokesperson as saying.
