The Regional Transport Authority on Wednesday approved several changes proposed by the police in the city traffic system.
This includes making some roads one-way, introducing No-Parking zones and banning U-turns at some junctions.
The decision has been taken in a high level meeting of the RTA convened by the district collector P.I. Sheikh Pareeth.
The authority has also given permission for the police to place sign boards and markings to
display the changes in city traffic rules.
Meanwhile, the RTA eased the one-way rules on Chittoor road considering the diversion of two-wheelers and auto rickshaws through Pulleppady Bridge during the dismantling of the North RoB.
The one-way rule will not apply to light vehicles on Chittoor Road during the Metro works. However, heavy vehicles will not be allowed to take the road from Girls’ High School junction to Kacherippady.
Vehicles from Paramar Road will not be permitted to turn right from Town Hall to reach Bannerjee Road.
The authority has also banned vehicles from Kumaranashan Road and Salim Rajan Road from taking a right onto Kumaranashan junction on Kaloor-Kadavanthara Road.
Vehicles from Chittoor Road will also not be allowed to take a right from Kacherippady junction to reach Bannerjee Road.
“From now on vehicles will not be permitted to take right on Palarivat-tom bypass road to reach Bypass-Palarivattom junction road.
Also, vehicles from TocH School cannot turn right onto Sahodaran Ayyappan Road to reach Vyttila,” said the collector.
The RTA has also directed officials to move the bus stop near Aquinas College to 50 metres east. The bus stop at ERG junction on Bannerjee Road will also be shifted 50 metres east.
