The department of school education has finally begun cracking down on unrecognised schools in Hyderabad, a day before the new academic year begins on Tuesday. Forty unrecognised schools were raided and seized in various locations across the city. Closure notices were served on the managements for running schools without obtaining necessary approvals from the gtate government. Prominent corporate school groups — Krishnaveni, Ravindra Bharathi, Chaitanya Techno school, and Kakatiya Techno school — were raided for running unauthorised branches in various locations.
Hyderabad district education officer Subba Reddy and representatives of the Hyderabad Recognised Private Schools Manage-ments Association were present during the raids. A public notice has been issued, asking parents not to admit their children in these schools, as they lack the requisite approvals from the government. “We will continue the raids till the end of this month on unrecognised schools. We have covered Saidabad, Yousufguda, and Khairatabad zones so far. We plan to take up raids in Nampally zone on Tuesday,” said Mr Reddy.
Ravindra Bharathi School, Khammam Chaitanya School and Times School in Santoshnagar, Chaitanya Techno School in Gaddiannaram, and Kakatiya Techno School in Madannapet were shut down on Monday. The education department has identified 230 unrecognised schools in Hyderabad alone and the number is even more in Ranga Reddy district. The Ranga Reddy district administration has also decided to launch raids
Parents whose children attend these schools are naturally upset. Some say that the school managements have promised to secure recognition by the time the schools reopen this year. The education department is contemplating giving recognition to these schools if they meet all the stipulated norms and apply for recognition. Parents have been told to shift their children to nearby recognised schools, but since these may not have the required vacancies, the future of these children remains in a jeopardy.
