The Malankara Syrian Orthodox Church is fuming over the inability of the state government to execute court orders in church cases.
Also, the state’s failure to check violence caused by rows over church property, has further upset the Church.
“There is no compliance with court orders. Directions of the Ernakulam collector have been violated at will by the Jacobite faction, while the government looked the other way.
Even the police remain onlookers by refusing to curb violence,” said Fr John Abraham Konatt, the priest trustee of the Orthodox Church.
Referring to the recent incident at King’s Church, Piravom, where an order of the collector was allegedly violated by the Jacobite faction and at Mamalassery, where his car was damaged by a violent mob, Fr Konatt said this was happening despite the Orthodox faction’s willingness to settle issues amicably.
According to him, the factional issue in the church was settled by the Supreme Court in a landmark judgment in 1995 and election to the Malankara Association was held on March, 20, 2002 with former Kerala chief justice V.S. Malimath as the observer. “Some people held a parallel meeting at Puthencruz on the same day and formed another church, leading to the current problems,” he said.
