Farmers affiliated with the Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatna (SSS) threw onions in front of PWD minister Chhagan Bhujbal’s house and staged rasta rokos in other parts of the district on Tuesday, demanding that the government to stem the falling prices of onion and provide incentive worth `200 per quintal.
The lowest price for onion in Lasalgaon Agriculture Produce Market Committee on Tuesday was `138 per quintal. The prices are dipping daily, and the SSS had warned that it would stage an agitation in front of Mr Bhujbal’s house on Monday. However, no agitation was staged on Monday, while hundreds of policemen kept vigil on Bhujbal Farm, the residence of the Bhujbals.
On Tuesday morning, around 50 farmers were detained while they tried marching to the house. However, they threw onions at the house.
Speaking to The Asian Age, deputy commissioner of police Dr D.S. Swamy said that 40 to 45 farmers were detained. Moreover, hundreds of farmers staged a rasta roko on Nampur-Sakri Road in Nampur village in Satana tehsil in and on Malegaon-Ambasan Road also Satana. According to the police, no arrests were made in the incident.

NDA cadets get top spots for parade
NDA cadets grabbed the top positions in the passing out parade of the Naval Academy and the Indian Military Academy.
At an impressive passing out parade, 101 officer cadets passed out of the First Training Squadron at Naval Base, Kochion June 8. Rear Admiral Sudarshan Shrikhande, Chief of Staff of Southern Naval Command, reviewed the parade. The 24 week afloat training on board the First Training squadron ships comprising INS Tir, INS Shardul, ICGS Varuna and sail training ships — INS Tarangini and INS Sudarshini is intended to provide them a firsthand experience of the rigours of life onboard a warship at sea and developing their sea legs. During the period, the cadets are trained on general and astro navigation, communications, gunnery and missile warfare, and seamanship in addition to military values.
