Water supply still not normal in city

Bengalureans continued to suffer due to lack of water supply even on Friday, even as the BWSSB maintained that the supply has returned to normal.

Many areas in the city did not get any water, though the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board said it would begin normal supplies from Wednesday after shutting down all the pumping stations on Tuesday. The public taps, which are given priority by the board, too ran dry.

“There has been no water supply to houses for many days. Letting go of my inhibitions, I had started going to the public tap to fetch water.

But today, there was no water even at the public tap near our house,” said Joseph Abraham, a resident of Marappa Garden.

Parts of core areas in the city, including Chickpet and Chamrajpet, waited for water in vain. Rajajinagar and Mahalakshmi Layout received only a small portion of their normal supplies.

Eastern parts of the city, including Mahadevapura, HBR Layout, HRBR Layout, Kalyan Nagar, which have a perennial water crisis, were the worst affected. Some areas have not received water for over a week.

But the BWSSB maintained that all is well. “The situation is normal. We received the full amount of 950 million litres of water on Friday.

There is no major problem with the supply. But we must understand that the city anyway faces a shortage during summer.

The current shortage, if any, is due to our limited resources and is not the result of the shutdown,” a senior BWSSB official said.
