[1]Composers Salim Sulaiman are set to re-live the golden era of Bollywood music. The duo are planning a tribute to Indian cinema’s magical era of 60s, 70s and 80s through their live show, “The Bollywood Musical”, which they will be presenting in association with Saregama.
“It’s going to be a tribute to the melodious memories of Bollywood music, but in a contemporary fashion. Our vision is to create a spectacular, taking the audience on a nostalgic trip. Along with timeless songs of Madan Mohan and R.D. Burman, we want to explore lesser known melodies from the sea of music,” says Sulaiman.
“The show will travel to all the big cities of the country. We will begin with the major historical places in Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur and Agra,” he adds.
The musical extravaganza, tentatively slotted for October, will have atleast 35 musicians performing live on stage.
“We haven’t designed the final stage for the show, as we are working hard on the music. It is however decided that the show will be remembered for its grandeur, both musically and visually. It should remind the audiences of the shows of the great Yani,” Sulaiman adds.
The music mavericks have been composing music for films for over a decade and are known for movies like Chak De! India, Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Fashion. But why would they call this musical their “dream project”? Sulaiman says, “There are some really amazing tracks from new films which keep on playing everywhere. Through this musical, we want to take a trip back to the entire 100 years of Indian cinema, pick songs and celebrate them. And choosing the best from the best is in itself going to be a challenge.”
Along with working on the musical, the brothers are busy creating music for Madhur Bhandarkar’s Heroine and Saif Ali Khan starrer Cocktail.
