Panda asked the Central government to ensure that there are no different voices within the UPA government on the anti-Naxal strategy. Trinamul Congress, an ally of the UPA government at the Centre, is the main political opponent of the ruling Left Front government in West Bengal and has been accused of closeness with the Maoists. This was conveyed to the Union home ministry during its meeting with Parliamentarians belonging to worst-Naxal hit regions on Friday.
“On many occasions, we have seen, members of the ruling combine expressing different opinions which are bound to weaken the policies adopted by the government to fight the Naxals,” Mr Panda said. He said that unless there was a sense of security in Naxal-affected areas, it will not be possible to carry out development works. CPI(M) MP Pulin Bihari Baska from West Bengal’s Jhargram said Maoists would not be defeated unless there was a political fight against against them. The MPs also said that the government should carry out development activities with a holistic approach.
