Defence minister A.K. Antony on Saturday advised against jumping to conclusion on allegation of misconduct against a top Army officer as the matter was under investigation. “Don’t jump to the conclusion, they (Army) are investigating,” he told reporters when asked about engineer-in-chief Lt. Gen. A.K. Nanda facing allegation of misconduct. He was here to inaugurate housing project for Armymen.
Army Chief General V.K. Singh, who accompanied the minister, said, “There are certain service norms and certain things which are done, we are going through that so there is no requirement to jump to the conclusion.” “After the things are over you will come to know,” he added.
“Whenever there is a serious allegation, we are not ignoring it, we enquire about it and take action,” Mr Antony said.
Lt. Gen. Nanda, 59, has been accused by the wife of a junior officer of molesting her during a trip to Israel last month.
The Army Chief said that there may be some lapses and delay, but armed forces were the only institution that take prompt action against people indulging into this kind of activity.
Mr Antony also said that the Union government was carefully assessing the Naxal situation in the country and would take a decision soon to effectively deal with it.
“The government will take a decision (anti-Naxal strategy) after carefully assessing various implications and pros and cons,” he told reporters. —PTI
