Amidst the drubbing of the CPI(M)-led Left Front in the West Bengal civic polls, the CPI(M) on Saturday admitted that its state unit has not been able to implement the rectification campaign properly. Notably, the rectification campaign aimed at cleansing the party of alien trends and corrupt practices, began soon after the Lok Sabha elections last year which witnessed the worst ever performance of the Left parties.
“We have not been able to implement the total programme as of now. We are not able to implement it properly. We need to move towards proper implementation,” party state secretary Biman Bose said. He said the party will continue its work in this direction and efforts are on to bridge the gap between the party and the people. The party is facing the challenge of correcting alien trends such as “business-politician nexus’’, use of money, liquor and other corrupt practices apart from the disconnect between the “new entrants’’ in the party with the basic outlook of the party which requires them to be grounded in class and mass struggles. The latest issue of the Marxist, spoke about ‘’bureaucratic behaviour and refusal to tolerate criticism’’ within the party.
