If there’s someone benefiting from this sweltering summer heat, it’s the pub owners. While the blazing summer is playing a spoiler for weekend plans, the footfall at many nightclubs has relatively increased. While the number of guests has doubled in some, others are losing business during the day hours, with more people coming in after dark.
Says Anik, deputy GM, Zygo club and dine, “There has been tremendous increase in the footfall this month, people start coming in early evening. It’s mostly the youth and corporates who party after working hours.”
Nishant Mittal from Ice Age Skating Cafe says, although the day business is hit because of the heat, the night parties are balancing the loss. “Though holidays are on and till last season there used to be a sizeable crowd during day also, but now we have more of night crowd. So the club is abuzz with activity at night. We’re hosting interesting events like dance and skate activities for weekends to make sure our night customers are happy. We have also extended our Ice club time till midnight, which was earlier till 11 pm only. At present 70 per cent of our day sales are coming from late evening hours,” he tells us.
Pubs at malls are benefiting from the heat. And how. Priyank Sukhija owner, 1 boulevard says, “Since 1 boulevard is located at the back of Select City Walk and they have shopping hours extended till 11 pm, we are more benefited by our late night events. People hardly step out for shopping during the day because of the heat, they usually step out around 6 in the evening and get free by 10 and then head to the club. We have events like Sufi nights, comic nights, commercial and karaoke days so that people enjoy to the fullest.”
