The Rapid Metro Rail Gurgaon Ltd — India’s first totally private Metro rail project — got financial closure on Saturday.
The mandate to RMGL is for the construction, operation and maintenance of five-kilometre Metro link, connecting Sikanderpur station of Delhi Metro to NH-8 in Gurgaon. T
he company has tied up project funding of Rs 761 crores from banks. “With this milestone, we take a major step forward in execution of the first fully financed private Metro rail project in the country,” RMGL managing director Sanjiv Rai said.
The contract to construct and operate Gurgaon Metro was awarded to a joint venture of DLF & ILFS in December 2009. The financial closure for the same was to be achieved within 6 month from the date of award of contract. The construction period for the alignment is 30 months from the date of commencement, and the concession period for this project is 99 years.
The five-kilometre line will have six stations which are Sikanderpur, DLF-2, Belvedere Park, Gateway Tower, Mall of India and DLF-3.
The stations will be eco-friendly with natural lighting, less air and sound pollution.
