Assistant police commissioner Suresh Nalavade has approached the Bombay high court seeking protection from being arrested, in connection with a complaint lodged against him by police inspector Lalasaheb Shette.
Mr Shette, an inspector, who was initially attached with the Versova police station and is now with the local arms unit in Naigaon, had filed a complaint against the ACP last month.
The inspected had alleged that Mr Nalavade had “taunted and harassed him” for belonging to a reserved caste. He had lodged the complaint at the Versova police station.
The ACP in his petition in the Bombay high court has sought protection against any action. However, the HC, in its order has held that there is no interim order required in the present stage, but if the investigating officer wants to take any action against the ACP, the police must provide the ACP 72 hours’ notice.
This will provide the ACP enough time to seek action, the HC observed. The matter will be further heard on July 31.
When contacted, Mr Shette said, “I have filed an atrocity case against the ACP. He harassed me for belonging to the reserved category. So, I decided to lodge a complaint against him.”
Arvind Mahabadi, officer investigating the case, said, “At present, we cannot reveal anything because the matter is subjudice.”
