[1]Chief minister J. Jayalalithaa has announced several measures to benefit IAS aspirants from Tamil Nadu, including increasing the monthly stipend offered at the state government training institute at Anna Nagar here.
Announcing a hike in the monthly food allowance from Rs 1,200 to Rs 2,000 for the trainees of the government-run institute, she directed that the sum be revised by five per cent annually in the coming years.
Ms Jayalalithaa also announced Rs 3,000 as incentives for 200 students for three months to encourage them to prepare well for the civil services examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), according to an official release here on Monday.
In addition, about Rs 2,000 would be given away as travel allowance to those aspirants who had undergone training at the institute and cleared the exams to appear for the personal interview in New Delhi, the release further said.
These initiatives would ensure a conducive situation wherein more number of students from Tamil Nadu would emerge as civil servants at national level, the release added.
The AIADMK government under Ms. Jayalalithaa has been striving hard to ensure overall development in the state.
It had already announced establishment of new hostel buildings for the BC, MBC and tribal students besides implementing its poll assurance of distributing free laptops to the students.
Apart from distributing free uniform, geometry boxes and other paraphernalia to school students, the numerous welfare measures being implemented by the state government would go a long way in improving the education standards in the state, an official said.
residents in hill areas to get induction stoves
The state government has proposed to procure about 5.44 lakh fans, 54,000 induction stoves for the hill areas besides 35 lakh table top wet grinders to be distributed for free to women across the state.
The scheme, which is among the several poll assurances given by Jayalalithaa’s AIADMK in the run up to the Assembly polls, has evoked tremendous response from the public.
The distribution is in full swing in various parts of the state. Owing to demand from the residents of the hill areas, chief minister J. Jayalalithaa agreed to provide induction stove instead of fans to the beneficiaries.
According to sources, the state government has proposed to procure electric fans, mixies and grinders to the women beneficiaries belonging to the families holding family ration cards eligible for drawing rice.
The Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation has been entrusted with the task of procuring 5.44 lakh pieces of electric table fans, 54,000 pieces of induction stove for distribution in the Nilgiris and Dindigul districts, besides purchase of 35 lakh pieces of mixies and table top wet grinders, each, with IS specifications. It is said the corporation would finalise the agency after tenders by July 18.
“The state had already provided budgetary provision for implementing the scheme this fiscal and has planned to execute the scheme without a break,” an official said.
