The family of imprisoned Indian Sarabjit Singh, who is on the deathrow in Pakistan, on Monday met actor Salman Khan at the Mehboob Studios, where the actor assured them that he would do all within his power to get Sarabjit back, and would even go to Pakistan if the need arose.
The actor, who was shooting for his upcoming film Dabanng 2, took the time off to talk to them.
Sarabjit’s sister Dalbir Kaur said that she felt a new hope after the meeting, and was taking heart in the fact that after Mr Khan’s initiative, many other Bollywood celebrities are also voicing their support for her brother’s speedy release from Pakistan.
“Mr Khan told me that he would stand by us till Sarabjit returns home, and was even prepared to go to Pakistan and speak to the authorities there if the need arises. I have assured Sarabjit’s daughter Sapandeep that with such good people helping us, her father will surely come home,” Ms Kaur told The Asian Age.
Mr Khan has launched an online petition seeking Sarabjit’s release, and has also appealed to Twitter users in Pakistan for support. On June 29, Mr Khan tweeted, “Wanted to tweet this for the longest time, saw a pic of surabjeets sister, it Killed me.”
