Apart from the Bhartiya Janata Party, which is going overboard with its hatemongering and anti-Muslim sentiments, nobody else seems to be worried about Love Jihad and forced conversions in the name of romance.
The controversial poster put up by the “anti-Love Jihad front” in its Delhi headquarters, warning people against Muslim men marrying and converting Hindu girls, is another example of how political parties are obsessed with using religion to divide and rule voters.
Well, at least the party doesn’t have to worry about Saif Ali Khan forcing Kareena Kapoor to convert to Islam after marriage as the actress has already said that she has no plans to switch religions.
And it’s not just Saifeena, Bollywood is full of stories where Hindu girls and Muslim boys have gotten married and there was no sinister agenda behind these romances. Shah Rukh Khan married wife Gauri only for love and never forced her to convert. “I loved Gauri for who she was. So, the question to convert into Islam didn’t arise,” says SRK. The actor adds, “Religion has always been a debatable issue between couples but I valued her above all that. We don’t impose our religion on our children either.”
It’s not just SRK. In the past, Javed Akhtar never forced his first wife Honey Irani to convert, Kishore Kumar and Madhubala never forced each other to convert to their respective religions, and neither did Hrithik Roshan and Suzanne Khan.
Arbaaz Khan happily said “I do” to wife Malaika in a church and director Imtiaz Ali’s wife remains a Hindu post marriage.
